The Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat has a Library for the use of the Members of the Assam Legislative Assembly and its secretariat. It is situated at the Gopinath Bordoloi Confrerence Hall opposite to the Assam Legislative Assembly Building.
At present the Assam Legislative Assembly Library has a diverse collection of near about forty thousand Books covering various subjects including Law, History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy, Literature, Biography and State Acts, Rules & Regulations, Gazettes, Debates of the Indian Parliament and State Legislative etc. The Library books are classified according to Dewey Decimal Classification System.
The Members of the Assam Legislative Assembly and the Officers and staff members of the Assembly Secretariat are provided the facility of borrowing books from the Library. The Library maintains the bibliographic databases of its collection in the software named “Koha”. Research Scholars with due permission in writing from the Secretary, ALA Secretariate are allowed to use the Library for the purpose of the study only during the period when the Assembly is not in session.
The Library is planning for Digitisation of its old and rare materials for the preservative and conservative measure.
Library Working Hours
The library shall remain open on all working days between 9.30- 5 p.m.. During the periods when the Assembly is in session, the Library will be opened from 8 a.m to 7 p.m till the house rises for the day.
