Positions Held	Elected to Lok Sabha in 1971. He was Union Deputy Minister of Defence in Mrs. Indira Gandhi's Ministry from 1973-1975. Elected to Lok Sabha in the year, 1980 and appointed Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation and Labour. He was unanimously elected Leader of the Congress (I) Legislature Party and became the Chief Minister in the year 1980. He was again elected Leader of the Congress (I) Legislature Party and became the Chief Minister in the year 1985. For the third consecutive term he was elected Leader of the Congress (I) Legislature Party and become the Chief Minister in the year 1995. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the 13 Orissa Legislative Assembly
Social Activities	He was a student leader all through his college days.
